Reinhard Pods founded the group 1/61 together with other artists in 1979. I have known Reinhard since then. About 10 years ago, we agreed on a documentary film project. My motive was to show Reinhard Pods' extraordinary work and his methods. When we started filming, he had not had a solo exhibition for a long time. The film ENIGMA PODS documents Reinhard Pods' return to the spotlight of the international art scene. His “Portfolio 1977–2017,” which was exhibited at the Michael Haas Gallery in Berlin, was met with great interest. New York gallery owner Fergus McCaffrey decided to present Reinhard Pods in New York in collaboration with the Berlin gallery. The exhibition was a great success. Experts were surprised, the audience enthusiastic. How could it be that such a painter had worked “under the radar” of connoisseurs for decades and had never been noticed internationally? Who is Reinhard Pods? To answer this question, I made this film: Enigma Pods.
